What is the fastest land animal found on African safaris?
Answer
Cheetah
Answer
Cheetah
The cheetah is the fastest land animal found on African safaris.
Its slender body, long legs, flexible spine, large nasal passages and non-retractable claws help it accelerate rapidly. A cheetah can reach roughly 93–104 kilometres per hour in short bursts, although it cannot maintain that speed for long.
Unlike lions and leopards, cheetahs usually hunt alone or in small family groups. They rely on speed and precise timing rather than prolonged wrestling with prey. Their typical targets include gazelles, especially young or vulnerable individuals.
A common mix-up is confusing the cheetah with the leopard. Leopards have rosette markings and are powerful climbers, while cheetahs have solid black spots and distinctive black tear stripes running from the eyes toward the mouth. Cheetahs are also more lightly built and generally avoid confrontations with larger predators.
