The 2023 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid has an EPA-estimated all-electric range of 37 miles.
This estimate represents the distance the front-wheel-drive Escape Plug-In Hybrid can travel on electricity before its gasoline engine is needed under the EPA testing framework. Ford’s plug-in Escape combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor and rechargeable battery, allowing many shorter trips to be completed without using gasoline.
The 37-mile number is an estimate, not a guaranteed distance for every journey. Weather, speed, heating or air-conditioning use, traffic, terrain, payload, tire pressure, and driving style can all change real-world range. EPA figures are intended to provide standardized comparisons among vehicles rather than predict every owner’s result.
Another common mix-up is confusing electric range with efficiency. The Escape Plug-In Hybrid was also rated at roughly 100 MPGe in electric operation, but MPGe measures energy consumption; it is not the number of electric miles available. Once the battery’s charge is depleted, the vehicle continues operating as a gasoline-electric hybrid.
