The 2006 film’s Spanish-language original title is Quinceañera.
Quinceañera is an American independent drama film written and directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland. It follows a teenager in Los Angeles whose planned quinceañera becomes entangled with family conflict, sexuality, religion, and housing pressure.
The film premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, where it won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award in the Dramatic Competition. Those awards helped bring attention to the film beyond its central cultural setting.
The movie is sometimes described simply by its English-release title, Quinceañera, which is also the Spanish word for the celebration and its traditional female honoree. It should not be confused with documentary or television uses of the same word.
