What is the common name of the tree frog with bright red eyes?

The story behind the answer

The tree frog commonly recognized for its bright red eyes is the red-eyed tree frog, especially Agalychnis callidryas. This species is native to tropical forests of Central America and northwestern South America and is one of the world’s most recognizable amphibians.

Its vivid appearance includes a bright green body, blue-and-yellow side stripes, orange feet, and striking red eyes. The colors are not evidence that the frog is poisonous. Instead, the hidden colors can help it blend among leaves, while suddenly opening its eyes or exposing its bright feet may startle a predator long enough for escape.

Agalychnis callidryas is primarily arboreal, spending much of its time in forest vegetation. It breeds near ponds and other water bodies, where females lay eggs on leaves above the water. The common name can technically refer to several species, but in ordinary quiz and popular-science usage it most strongly identifies A. callidryas.
