What is the capital of Argentina, the country famous for tango?

The story behind the answer

Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina, the South American country famous for tango.

The city lies on the western shore of the Río de la Plata estuary. Pedro de Mendoza founded an early settlement there in 1536, and Juan de Garay established the permanent settlement in 1580.

Buenos Aires became the capital of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata in 1776. It later played a major role in Argentina's independence and national political life. The city is also Argentina's principal cultural and economic centre.

Tango developed in the Río de la Plata region during the late nineteenth century, especially in working-class districts of Buenos Aires and nearby Montevideo. Argentina's federal capital is distinct from Buenos Aires Province, which surrounds the city but has a separate government.
