What is the capital city of the Southern Water Tribe?

Wolf Cove is the capital city of the Southern Water Tribe. It serves as the South’s political and cultural center and grows from a historic settlement into a major city after the Hundred Year War.

During the war, Wolf Cove was a much smaller community and suffered from Fire Nation raids. Its residents included Katara and Sokka’s family, and the settlement was vulnerable enough to be attacked during the series’ opening-era events. After the war, the Southern Reconstruction Project brought substantial rebuilding and modernization to the region.

By Korra’s time, Wolf Cove has expanded into a large metropolis with a harbor, surrounding mountains, government buildings, and the Southern Water Tribe Royal Palace. It is distinct from Agna Qel’a, the capital of the Northern Water Tribe, and from Republic City, the capital of the United Republic. The animated series often focuses on the wider tribe without naming the capital directly, which is why this fact is sometimes confused with the tribe’s smaller villages.
