The capital city of Equestria is Canterlot.

Canterlot is the principal royal city in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and the seat of Equestria’s government. It is built high on the side of the Foal Mountains, giving the city its dramatic skyline of towers, spires, and castle walls. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna’s royal court is based there, and Twilight Sparkle lives in Canterlot before moving to Ponyville.

The city’s name is a horse-themed variation on Camelot, the legendary court of King Arthur. Series creator Lauren Faust also described Canterlot as having a European visual style, drawing on castles and cathedrals. Its mountain setting and royal architecture emphasize its importance compared with ordinary towns such as Ponyville.

A common mix-up is the Crystal Empire, which is an important realm ruled by Princess Cadance and Shining Armor, but it is not Equestria’s capital. Ponyville is the series’ main home base, while Manehattan is a major commercial city. Canterlot remains the canonical answer to the capital-city question.
