What is the Black Stone in the Kaaba called in Arabic?

Hajar al-Aswad is the Arabic name of the Black Stone set into the Kaaba.

The stone is located in the eastern corner of the Kaaba in Mecca. During tawaf, pilgrims begin and end each circuit near this corner, following the established direction around the sanctuary. When possible, pilgrims may touch or kiss the stone; when the area is crowded, they may gesture toward it instead.

Islamic tradition associates the Black Stone with the time of Abraham and Ishmael, who are said to have raised the Kaaba. Accounts also describe the stone as having been white before becoming black, though historical and theological interpretations vary.

Muslims do not worship the stone. A famous report about Umar ibn al-Khattab emphasizes that it cannot independently cause harm or benefit; it is honored because the Prophet Muhammad is reported to have honored it.
