What is Street Fighter Alpha called in Japan?
Answer
Street Fighter Zero
Answer
Street Fighter Zero
Street Fighter Alpha is called Street Fighter Zero in Japan.
Capcom released the game as Street Fighter Zero in Japan, as well as in several other territories including parts of Asia, South America, and Oceania. Western markets received the title Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors’ Dreams. The two names refer to the same 1995 arcade game, not separate entries in the series.
The subtitle and naming reflected the game’s role as a new beginning. Street Fighter Alpha serves as a prequel to Street Fighter II, depicting younger versions of established characters and bringing back fighters from the original Street Fighter and Final Fight. Its systems included Alpha Counters and a revised Super Combo gauge.
The title change can cause confusion because later games preserve the regional naming split: Alpha 2 is Zero 2 in Japan, and Alpha 3 is Zero 3. “Street Fighter Classic” was only an early prototype name, while Street Fighter EX is a separate 3D spin-off series. “Dash” belongs to other Japanese Street Fighter subtitles, not this game’s Japanese title.
