What is Pandora’s moon at Saturn officially called?

The story behind the answer

Saturn’s small moon is officially called Pandora.

Pandora was discovered in 1980 in images taken by the Voyager 1 spacecraft. It is an inner satellite of Saturn and orbits near the planet’s narrow F ring. Along with the moon Prometheus, Pandora helps influence and confine the appearance of that ring through gravitational interactions.

The moon is irregularly shaped and heavily cratered. Its name follows the convention of naming many Saturnian satellites after figures from Greek and Roman mythology. Pandora’s mythological association made the name especially appropriate for a moon involved in the complex structure of Saturn’s rings.

Pandora is sometimes confused with Prometheus because both moons are linked to the F ring and were discovered around the same period. They are separate bodies with different orbits. Pandora’s orbital period is about 15 hours, while Prometheus is the larger of the two shepherd moons.
