What is Mariah Carey's most famous Christmas song?

Mariah Carey's most famous Christmas song is "All I Want for Christmas Is You." Released in 1994, it became the defining holiday hit of her career and one of the most recognizable modern Christmas songs.

Carey wrote and produced the song with Walter Afanasieff for Merry Christmas, her first holiday album. Rather than adapting a traditional carol, the team created an upbeat original love song built around bells, layered backing vocals, and a deliberately timeless pop sound. Carey recorded much of the album during summer, a detail that contrasts with the song's wintry atmosphere.

The song initially performed modestly on the main U.S. singles chart because of chart rules affecting holiday releases, but streaming transformed its reach. It later topped the Billboard Hot 100 and returns to charts every holiday season. Readers sometimes confuse it with similarly titled songs, including a 1989 country song by Vince Vance & the Valiants, but Carey's recording is the internationally famous version.
