What is Legolas's father's name?

Thranduil is Legolas’s father in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth legendarium.

Thranduil is the Elvenking who rules the Woodland Realm in northern Mirkwood. He is a Sindarin Elf who established his kingdom among the Silvan Elves, and he appears prominently in The Hobbit, where he imprisons Thorin Oakenshield and the Dwarves after their journey through Mirkwood.

Legolas is Thranduil’s son and a prince of the Woodland Realm. In The Lord of the Rings, Legolas leaves Mirkwood to attend the Council of Elrond and becomes one of the nine members of the Fellowship of the Ring. His exceptional eyesight, archery, and ability to move lightly through difficult terrain reflect his Elven heritage.

A common mix-up involves Oropher, who was Thranduil’s father and Legolas’s grandfather. Oropher was the earlier king of the Woodland Realm and died during the War of the Last Alliance against Sauron. Elrond and Celeborn are also major Elves, but they belong to different royal families and are not Legolas’s father.
