What is Alvin Alley famous for?

Alvin Ailey is famous for dance, especially modern dance and choreography centered on African-American experience.

Born in Texas in 1931, Ailey trained under choreographer Lester Horton before moving to New York and performing in Broadway productions. In 1958, he founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, which became one of the world’s leading modern-dance companies.
