Answer
League of Nations
Answer
League of Nations
The League of Nations was the international peacekeeping organization founded in 1920.
It was established on January 10, 1920, when the Covenant of the League of Nations took effect as part of the post–World War I peace settlement. The organization was created to prevent future wars through collective security, disarmament, negotiation, and arbitration. Its headquarters were in Geneva, Switzerland, a location associated with neutrality and international cooperation.
The League also worked on issues beyond military conflict, including refugee relief, public health, labor conditions, human trafficking, and minority protection. Its first members included 42 founding states, but the United States never joined despite President Woodrow Wilson being one of its leading advocates.
The League struggled when major powers ignored its decisions and when aggression increased during the 1930s. It was unable to prevent World War II and formally dissolved in 1946. The United Nations then assumed many of its international functions, making the UN its successor rather than the answer to this 1920 question.
