What Inca initiation ceremony tested young nobles and marked their transition into adulthood?

The story behind the answer

Warachikuy was the Inca initiation ceremony that tested young nobles and marked their transition into adulthood.

The rite formed part of elite education and preparation for adult responsibilities in the Inca state. Participants underwent demanding physical tests and demonstrations of skill, endurance, and courage. Successful candidates could receive adult clothing and insignia, including the traditional warrior’s loincloth associated with the ceremony’s name.

Warachikuy also had political and military significance. The Inca state needed trained administrators, soldiers, and leaders, so initiation connected personal maturity with service to the empire.

It is often confused with Inti Raymi, the better-known Inca festival dedicated to the Sun. Inti Raymi was a major religious celebration, whereas Warachikuy specifically concerned the initiation and testing of young men, particularly those of noble status.
