The resulting Calydonian Boar Hunt gathered many celebrated heroes of the generation before the Trojan War. Meleager led the expedition, while Atalanta is said in many accounts to have struck the first wound. After the boar was killed, disputes over its hide led to further conflict and tragedy, especially between Meleager and his relatives.
