Lunala is the Generation VII Pokémon referred to as “the beast that calls the moon.” It is a large, bat-like Legendary Pokémon and the mascot associated with Pokémon Moon and Pokémon Ultra Moon.
Lunala is a Psychic/Ghost type and evolves from Cosmoem, which itself develops from Cosmog. Its wide wings resemble a night sky with a crescent moon, reinforcing its lunar imagery. The Pokédex describes Lunala as capable of absorbing light and casting a dark veil over the brightness of day.
Lunala is paired with Solgaleo, the Psychic/Steel Legendary associated with the sun. Their descriptions intentionally mirror each other: Lunala is “the beast that calls the moon,” while Solgaleo is “the beast that devours the sun.” Lunala can also fuse with Necrozma to become Dawn Wings Necrozma. It is uniquely associated with the move Moongeist Beam and the Z-Move Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom. The phrase is sometimes confused with Lunala’s game mascot role, but it is specifically a Pokédex-style title for the Pokémon.
