What game engine does Star Wars Outlaws use?

The story behind the answer

Star Wars Outlaws uses Ubisoft's Snowdrop game engine.

Snowdrop is Ubisoft's proprietary technology and was developed by the company's Massive Entertainment studio. It also powered Massive's earlier Tom Clancy's The Division games, making it a natural foundation for Outlaws, another large-scale third-person game with connected environments, combat, and exploration.

For Outlaws, the engine was enhanced to support three major design goals: densely populated dynamic cities, broad landscapes filled with activities, and travel through outer space. The game combines planetary exploration, speeder-bike travel, starship flight, space combat, stealth, and faction-driven missions within one connected adventure.

Snowdrop is sometimes confused with the engines used by other major Star Wars games. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, for example, was built with Unreal Engine 4, while Frostbite has powered several Electronic Arts titles. Unity is also unrelated to Outlaws. The engine choice is therefore a specific development fact, not a reference to the game's fictional technology in the Star Wars setting.
