What game engine does PUBG: Battlegrounds use?
Answer
Unreal Engine 4
Answer
Unreal Engine 4
PUBG: Battlegrounds uses Unreal Engine 4. Epic Games’ engine provided the technical foundation for the game’s large maps, online combat, physics, rendering, and content tools.
Brendan Greene and the development team selected Unreal Engine 4 partly because it allowed faster production than building a proprietary engine from scratch. PUBG’s design still presented major technical challenges: its maps are large, players gather equipment across them, and many simultaneous actions must be synchronized online.
The engine choice is often confused with the engines used by earlier games and mods in PUBG’s development history. ARMA 3 used its own proprietary technology, while H1Z1 also used a different engine. PUBG was shaped by Greene’s experience with those games, but it was not built on their engines.
Unreal Engine 4 also helped PUBG become accessible to a broad range of PC and console hardware. Later mobile editions required substantial adaptation and optimization, so PUBG Mobile should not be treated as a completely identical technical build.
