What food delivery app did Careem launch in November 2018?

Careem launched the food-delivery app Careem Now in November 2018. The service initially delivered food and pharmaceuticals in Dubai and Jeddah, extending the ride-hailing company’s business into on-demand delivery.

The launch followed Careem’s February 2018 acquisition of RoundMenu, a restaurant-listing and food-ordering platform operating across the Arab world. That deal gave Careem technology and local restaurant relationships it could use to build a delivery operation rather than treating transportation as its only service.

Careem Now is sometimes confused with Careem Food, Careem Eats, or Careem Kitchen. Those names may sound like plausible labels for food-related products, but they are not the answer to this historical launch question. Careem’s later expansion added more delivery categories, including groceries and household essentials, helping turn the company from a ride-hailing service into a broader “super-app.”

Uber agreed to acquire Careem in 2019 for US$3.1 billion. Careem continued operating under its own brand, and its delivery services remained part of that wider ecosystem.
