What flower is the birth flower for the month of March?
Answer
Daffodil
Answer
Daffodil
The birth flower for the month of March is the daffodil. Its botanical genus is Narcissus, and the familiar trumpet-shaped bloom is one of the earliest flowers associated with the arrival of spring.
Daffodils grow from bulbs and usually have six outer tepals surrounding a central corona, or cup. Although yellow is the best-known color, cultivated daffodils also appear in white, orange, pink, and combinations of these shades. The name “daffodil” is commonly used for many Narcissus species and cultivars.
March has more than one birth-flower tradition in some lists: jonquil is sometimes included, but jonquils are a type of Narcissus rather than a wholly unrelated flower. Cherry blossom also appears in some modern alternatives. Even so, daffodil is the standard answer in general English-language birth-flower references.
The flower also has strong cultural associations. It is the national flower of Wales and is worn on Saint David’s Day, March 1. In gardening and symbolism, daffodils commonly represent renewal, hope, and new beginnings.
