The Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing is in Ocala, Florida.
Founded by legendary drag racer Don “Big Daddy” Garlits, the museum opened in 1984 and preserves the machinery, personalities, and technology of drag racing. Its collection includes many of Garlits’s “Swamp Rat” dragsters, the cars associated with his pioneering career.
The museum is larger than a single-car display. Its Drag Race building has housed roughly 90 racing cars, while a separate Antique Car building has held about 50 additional vehicles. Exhibits also include notable cars connected with figures such as Dean Moon.
Ocala is in north-central Florida, making the museum easy to confuse with better-known Florida motorsport destinations such as Daytona Beach. The Don Garlits Museum is specifically associated with drag racing rather than NASCAR or stock-car history. It also houses the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame, whose inductees include Shirley Muldowney, Kenny Bernstein, and Don Schumacher.
