What flag is prominently displayed on Bastille Day?
Answer
French flag
Answer
French flag
The French flag is prominently displayed on Bastille Day, France’s national celebration on 14 July.
France’s national flag is a vertical tricolour of blue, white and red, with blue nearest the flagpole when displayed in its standard orientation. It appears on public buildings, streets, military uniforms and at ceremonies during the holiday.
The flag’s origins lie in the French Revolution. Paris’s traditional blue and red colours were combined with white, historically associated with France, to create a revolutionary national cockade. The tricolour flag developed from that symbol and was officially adopted in the revolutionary period.
The modern flag is not the same as the old royal white flag or a European Union flag. Its colours and design have changed slightly at times, but the blue-white-red tricolour remains the enduring emblem of the French Republic.
