What fictional world is explored in C.S. Lewis’s seven-book fantasy series?

The story behind the answer

Narnia is the fictional world explored in C.S. Lewis’s seven-book fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia.

Lewis’s Narnia contains talking animals, mythical creatures, magical objects, and human visitors from Earth. Aslan, a great lion, is its central guiding figure and appears throughout the series. The books move between Narnia and our world, especially through children who discover portals or otherwise become involved in Narnian history.

The series was published between 1950 and 1956. Its seven books include The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and The Last Battle.

Narnia is not the same setting as Middle-earth, which was created by Lewis’s friend J.R.R. Tolkien. Both are major twentieth-century fantasy worlds, but Tolkien’s stories center on places such as the Shire and Mordor.
