What fictional New Jersey hospital is featured in House M.D.?

The story behind the answer

The fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital is the main setting of House M.D. Most of the series’ diagnostic cases, staff conflicts, and medical investigations take place there.

Princeton-Plainsboro is presented as a teaching hospital in New Jersey, combining patient care with medical education and research. Dr. Gregory House heads its Department of Diagnostic Medicine, an unusually specialized unit that investigates patients whose symptoms have resisted ordinary diagnosis.

Although the hospital is fictional, the production used real locations to create its appearance. Princeton University’s Frist Campus Center provided exterior and interior shots for the hospital in many episodes. The setting was designed to feel like a large academic medical center rather than a small clinic.

Viewers sometimes shorten the name to “Princeton-Plainsboro” or mistake it for a real New Jersey institution. The full fictional name used by the series is Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital.
