C.S. Lewis’s Narnia series primarily depicts the fictional land of Narnia.
Narnia is a fantasy world populated by humans, talking animals, mythical creatures, and other beings. Lewis presents its history across many centuries, from the creation of the world in The Magician’s Nephew to its final events in The Last Battle.
The land is ruled or protected at different times by characters including Aslan and several human kings and queens. Although visitors from Earth often enter Narnia, the series is not set mainly in England; the two worlds have distinct histories and rules.
Readers sometimes confuse Narnia with Middle-earth, the setting of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books. Lewis and Tolkien were close friends and members of the Oxford literary group known as the Inklings, but Middle-earth belongs to Tolkien, while Narnia belongs to Lewis.
