What engine did the 2009 Corvette ZR1 use?
Answer
Supercharged LS9
Answer
Supercharged LS9
The 2009 Corvette ZR1 used the supercharged LS9 engine.
The LS9 was a 6.2-liter V8 developed specifically for the C6-generation ZR1. Its positive-displacement supercharger sat in the valley between the cylinder banks and used an integrated intercooler to force denser air into the engine.
The ZR1 was positioned above the naturally aspirated Z06 in Chevrolet’s Corvette range. The Z06 used the 7.0-liter LS7, while the ZR1’s smaller-displacement LS9 delivered much greater output through forced induction. The engine was rated at 638 horsepower and 604 lb-ft of torque.
A common mix-up is the supercharged LT4, which powered the C7 Corvette Z06 beginning with the 2015 model year. The LS3 was a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter engine used in other C6 Corvettes, not the ZR1.
