Answer
Treaty of Paris (1783)
The Treaty of Paris (1783) formally ended the American Revolutionary War, the conflict behind America250.
Representatives of Great Britain and the United States signed the treaty in Paris on September 3, 1783. Britain recognized the United States as free, sovereign, and independent states, making the diplomatic conclusion of the war official.
The treaty also established broad boundaries for the new nation, extending west to the Mississippi River, north toward the Great Lakes and British North America, and south toward Spanish Florida. It included provisions concerning debts, Loyalist property, prisoners, and fishing rights.
The treaty is often confused with other agreements called the Treaty of Paris. The 1763 treaty ended the Seven Years' War, while the 1783 treaty specifically recognized American independence. The United States ratified the 1783 agreement in January 1784.
