What divine bow did Rama break to win Sita's hand?

The story behind the answer

Rama broke the divine bow Pinaka to win Sita’s hand in marriage.

Pinaka was the celestial bow associated with Shiva. In the Ramayana’s account of Sita’s svayamvara, her adoptive father, King Janaka of Mithila, set the bow-lifting or stringing feat as the condition for marriage. Many assembled princes failed even to move it.

Rama arrived in Mithila with the sage Vishvamitra and accepted the challenge. He lifted Pinaka and attempted to string it; the immense bow snapped under the strain. Janaka then agreed to give Sita to Rama, making the broken bow the decisive symbol of his strength and worthiness.

Pinaka is often confused with Sharanga, the bow traditionally associated with Vishnu, and Gandiva, the bow of the Mahabharata hero Arjuna. The name Kodanda is also commonly linked with Rama, but the bow in the Sita-svayamvara episode is Pinaka.
