What declaration did Japan accept in Hirohito's August 15, 1945 surrender broadcast?

The story behind the answer

Japan accepted the Potsdam Declaration in Hirohito's August 15, 1945 surrender broadcast.

The declaration was issued on July 26, 1945, by the United States, the United Kingdom, and China. It called for Japan's unconditional surrender and warned of “prompt and utter destruction” if Japan refused. The Soviet Union joined the declaration after entering the war against Japan.

Japan's government accepted the declaration after intense debate among its leaders. Hirohito's radio address told the public that Japan would comply with the Allied terms, although the speech used formal language and did not directly use the word “surrender” in the way many modern translations suggest.

Acceptance of the declaration led to the later signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender. The declaration and the instrument are therefore related but different: one stated the Allied demands, while the other recorded Japan's formal capitulation.
