Answer
July 6, 2016
Answer
July 6, 2016
The official launch of Pokémon Go began on July 6, 2016.
The game first became available in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States for iOS and Android devices. Developed and published by Niantic in partnership with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, it combined Pokémon collecting with augmented reality and location-based play.
Pokémon Go uses GPS to locate players and place Pokémon, PokéStops, and Gyms in the real world. Its initial release featured approximately 150 Pokémon species, primarily from Generation I, connecting the mobile game to the franchise's 20-year history.
The launch date is sometimes confused with later regional releases. Japan received Pokémon Go on July 22, 2016, while the United Kingdom followed on July 14. Server strain caused the worldwide rollout to happen in stages.
