The United States Semiquincentennial, known as America's 250th anniversary, is officially observed on July 4, 2026.
The date marks 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The anniversary is commonly called America250, while semiquincentennial is the formal historical term for a 250th anniversary.
The celebration follows the United States Bicentennial in 1976, which marked 200 years since the Declaration. America250 is being coordinated through the United States Semiquincentennial Commission, a nonpartisan organization created by Congress in 2016.
The anniversary date concerns the Declaration's adoption, not the date on which the engrossed parchment was signed by most delegates. That later signing process is one reason July 4, August 2, and other dates can appear in discussions of the Declaration.
