What date did the Wall Street Crash of 1929 reach its most famous selling climax?

The story behind the answer

The Wall Street Crash of 1929 reached its most famous selling climax on 29 October 1929. That Tuesday became known as Black Tuesday.

Prices had already begun falling after the market’s peak on 3 September 1929. Panic intensified on Black Thursday, 24 October, when unusually heavy trading and a sharp decline alarmed investors. A temporary recovery followed, but renewed selling on 28 and 29 October produced a much more severe collapse.

Black Tuesday saw millions of shares traded as investors attempted to escape a market increasingly dominated by fear and forced sales. The crash damaged businesses, banks, and households, but the subsequent economic depression had several causes rather than one single event.

Black Tuesday is not the same as Black Monday, 28 October, or Black Thursday, 24 October. Those labels identify separate sessions in the same historic market collapse.
