A waltz is commonly associated with the choreographed quinceañera court presentation.
The formal dance, often called the vals, may be performed by the celebrant with members of the court or family. Its partnered steps and ceremonial pacing make it suitable for a presentation during the reception.
Many modern quinceañeras add other music and dance styles, including regional Latin genres and contemporary pop. The waltz therefore describes a prominent traditional element, not a rule that every celebration must follow.
The word vals is Spanish for waltz. It should not be confused with tango, which has a different musical and dance history. Choreography, music, and the number of dancers depend on the family’s preferences and the event’s setting.
