The waltz most commonly forms the ceremonial centerpiece of a traditional quinceañera.
The dance is usually performed by the honoree with her court and sometimes with her father or another important family member. It can serve as a formal presentation, displaying rehearsed steps and coordinated clothing before the celebration becomes less formal.
Quinceañera waltzes are not governed by one universal choreography. Families may choose a traditional ballroom arrangement, a modern medley, or additional choreographed dances influenced by regional and popular culture. The waltz remains the conventional formal dance because of its association with presentation and ceremony.
A quinceañera waltz should not be confused with every dance performed at the party. Salsa, cumbia, merengue, and other styles may also appear during the reception, but they are not the traditional centerpiece.
