The dance traditionally performed at a quinceañera after the formal presentation is the waltz.
The quinceañera may perform a choreographed waltz with her court of honor and sometimes with her father or another family member. The dance provides a formal centerpiece for the reception and is often rehearsed weeks or months in advance.
Many celebrations now add other styles, including cumbia, salsa, regional Mexican dances, hip-hop, or a surprise dance. These additions do not eliminate the waltz’s traditional association with the ceremony, but they show how the event changes across generations and communities.
A waltz is a partner dance in triple meter, but a quinceañera waltz may be choreographed for a large group rather than danced as a conventional pair dance.
