What custom Cadillac did Boyd Coddington build for Billy Gibbons?
Answer
CadZZilla
Answer
CadZZilla
The custom Cadillac Boyd Coddington built for Billy Gibbons was CadZZilla.
Conceived in 1989, CadZZilla began as a 1948 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette and was commissioned for Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. The project was conceived by Jack Chisenhall, designed by Chisenhall and Larry Erickson, and built by Boyd Coddington’s team, led by body man Craig Naff.
Its design drew on 1950s lead-sled customs but pushed the idea into a radically modern form. The roof was chopped, the hood and front fenders were reshaped into a tilt nose, the headlights and taillights were frenched, and the car received distinctive billet wheels and a deep-purple House of Kolor finish. Its 500-cubic-inch Cadillac V8 added serious performance to the dramatic styling.
CadZZilla is often confused with Eliminator, another famous Gibbons car. Eliminator is a 1933 Ford Coupe prominently featured in ZZ Top music videos, whereas CadZZilla is the custom Cadillac and is named as a stylized combination of “Cadillac” and “Godzilla.”
