What currency is used by South Korea and divided into 100 jeon?

The story behind the answer

The currency used by South Korea and divided into 100 jeon is the South Korean won.

The won is South Korea’s official currency and has the ISO code KRW. The name “won” is related to words used for round objects and shares historical linguistic roots with the Chinese yuan and Japanese yen. In everyday modern transactions, the jeon subdivision is not commonly used because prices are normally expressed in whole won.

The Bank of Korea issues South Korean banknotes and coins. The currency is sometimes confused with the North Korean won, but the two are separate national currencies with different issuers, designs and monetary systems. The won sign is ₩.
