What currency is New Zealand’s official money and is commonly called the kiwi?
Answer
New Zealand dollar
Answer
New Zealand dollar
New Zealand’s official currency, commonly nicknamed the kiwi, is the New Zealand dollar.
New Zealand introduced the dollar on 10 July 1967, replacing the New Zealand pound. Decimalisation changed the currency from pounds, shillings and pence to dollars and cents, with one dollar initially equal to ten shillings.
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand issues the currency. One New Zealand dollar is divided into 100 cents, and the currency’s ISO 4217 code is NZD. The nickname kiwi refers to New Zealand’s native flightless bird and is also a familiar national symbol.
The New Zealand dollar is used in New Zealand and certain associated Pacific territories, including the Cook Islands under separate local arrangements. It is distinct from Australia’s dollar despite their geographic proximity.
