Nix is the creature companion who helps Kay Vess in Star Wars Outlaws.
Nix is a small merqaal, a species introduced to the Star Wars universe through Outlaws. He travels with Kay throughout the game and assists her during exploration, stealth, combat, and heist missions. Nix can distract enemies, interact with objects, retrieve items, and attack selected targets, making him more than a decorative animal sidekick.
The developers designed Kay and Nix as a cooperative pair. Their abilities are meant to complement Kay's blaster, hacking tools, grappling hook, and stealth options. Nix's animal-like movements and appearance combine ideas drawn from pets and wild creatures, including armadillos and axolotls.
Players sometimes confuse Nix with famous Star Wars droids such as BD-1 or D-O, but Nix is a living creature, not a machine. BD-1 is Cal Kestis's droid companion in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, while Babu Frik is a different character from the sequel-trilogy era. Nix is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
