The US Open has used Laykold as its court-surface brand since the 2020 surface change.
The tournament is played on hard courts, but “hard court” describes the court type rather than the commercial surface system. Laykold replaced DecoTurf at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in 2020, ending DecoTurf’s 42-year run as the US Open’s surface supplier.
The change was made across the tournament’s courts, including its major stadium venues. Laykold courts use layered acrylic systems designed to control traction, ball bounce, pace and player comfort. The US Open remains a hard-court event; it did not switch to clay or grass.
The wrong options reflect other famous tennis surfaces. Rebound Ace was associated with the Australian Open, while Plexicushion later became that tournament’s surface. DecoTurf is the key historical US Open answer, but it was the previous brand, not the one used after 2020.
