What country was physicist Niels Bohr from?
Answer
Denmark
Answer
Denmark
Physicist Niels Bohr was from Denmark.
Niels Henrik David Bohr was born in Copenhagen in 1885 and became one of Denmark’s most influential scientists. He studied at the University of Copenhagen and later worked in England with J. J. Thomson and Ernest Rutherford, whose ideas helped shape his own approach to atomic physics.
Bohr is best known for the Bohr model of the atom, introduced in 1913. It proposed that electrons occupy specific energy levels around the nucleus and emit or absorb energy when moving between those levels. Although later replaced by quantum mechanics, the model was a major step in the development of modern physics.
Bohr returned to Copenhagen and founded the Institute for Theoretical Physics there in 1921. The institute became an international center for quantum research. Denmark is sometimes confused with Norway or Sweden because all three are Scandinavian countries, but Bohr’s nationality and birthplace were Danish. His son Aage Bohr also became a Nobel Prize-winning physicist.
