What country dominates the Jutland Peninsula?

Denmark is the country that dominates the Jutland Peninsula. Jutland forms Denmark’s continental mainland, while a smaller southern section lies in Germany’s state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The peninsula projects northward into the North Sea and Baltic region. Its northern tip is Grenen, near Skagen, where the Skagerrak and Kattegat meet. The Danish part includes major cities such as Aarhus, Aalborg, Esbjerg, and Randers, as well as broad agricultural plains, heathlands, dunes, and the distinctive Wadden Sea coast.

A common mix-up is assuming that Jutland is entirely Danish. Geographically, the peninsula crosses the modern Danish-German border, although “Jutland” in everyday Danish usage generally means the Danish portion, called Jylland. Historically, the term could also include parts of Schleswig south of today’s border. Denmark’s islands, including Zealand and Funen, are not part of the Jutland Peninsula.
