What country did the Ming Dynasty take place?

The Ming Dynasty took place in China. It ruled from 1368 to 1644, following the Mongol-led Yuan Dynasty and preceding the Manchu-led Qing Dynasty.

The dynasty was founded by Zhu Yuanzhang, a former rebel leader who became the Hongwu Emperor. He reunified much of China, strengthened agriculture, rebuilt government institutions, and established Nanjing as his capital. His successor, the Yongle Emperor, later made Beijing the main capital and commissioned the Forbidden City.

The Ming era is remembered for major naval expeditions led by Zheng He, flourishing porcelain and silk production, expansion of the Great Wall, and increased trade with Europe. It was also a period of population growth and economic change, partly driven by silver arriving through global trade.

A common mix-up is confusing the Ming with the Yuan Dynasty, which preceded it and was founded by Kublai Khan, or with the Qing Dynasty, which conquered Ming territory after the dynasty collapsed in the 17th century.
