Apple develops, designs, brands, and markets the iPhone as part of its consumer-technology business. Steve Jobs introduced the first iPhone at Macworld on January 9, 2007, and it went on sale in the United States on June 29 of that year.

The word “manufactures” can be slightly confusing because Apple does not perform every stage of physical production itself. It manages the product and supply chain while contract manufacturers—including Foxconn, Pegatron, and, increasingly, Tata Group—assemble phones in facilities across countries such as China and India.

That distinction does not change the standard quiz answer: Apple is the company responsible for the iPhone. Nokia, Google, and Samsung make competing phones or mobile technologies, but they do not manufacture the iPhone. Apple’s control includes its custom-designed chips, iOS software, industrial design, and hardware specifications.
