The star on Timor-Leste's national flag is white.
Timor-Leste's flag has a red field with two overlapping triangles extending from the hoist: a larger yellow triangle and a smaller black triangle. A white five-pointed star sits in the center of the black triangle, with one point directed toward the hoist-side end of the flag.
The constitution describes the star as “the light that guides.” Earlier symbolism associated the white star with hope for a better future; the 2002 Constitution specifies white as representing peace. The flag was first adopted in 1975 and restored as the national flag when independence was formally re-established on May 20, 2002.
The star is sometimes drawn pointing straight upward, especially in images connected with the 1975 flag or the 2002 independence ceremony. Under the current constitutional description, however, one point faces toward the upper-left, making orientation another detail readers often miss.
