What color is Percy the Small Engine?

Percy the Small Engine is green. He is a little green saddle-tank engine who works on the North Western Railway on the Island of Sodor and is one of Thomas’s closest friends.

Percy was introduced in the 1950 book Troublesome Engines. In the Railway Series, he was brought to Sodor during a dispute involving several larger engines and initially worked as a station pilot. Later, he moved permanently to Thomas’s branch line and became especially associated with goods traffic and the mail train.

Percy’s compact shape and bright green livery make him easy to distinguish from the other original standard-gauge engines. Thomas is blue, James is red, Gordon is blue, and Henry is green, which can cause confusion: Percy and Henry share a broad color family, but Percy is the smaller saddle-tank engine. His commonly recognized green appearance has remained a defining visual feature across the classic television series and later Thomas media.
