What college did MLB Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt play for?

MLB Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt played college baseball at Ohio University. He starred for the Ohio Bobcats before beginning his professional career with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Schmidt attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he played shortstop under coach Bob Wren. In 1970, he helped the Bobcats reach the College World Series, the only appearance in program history for Ohio baseball. He was also named an All-American in 1970 and 1971.

The Philadelphia Phillies selected Schmidt in the second round of the 1971 MLB Draft, 30th overall. He made his major-league debut in 1972 and spent his entire 18-season MLB career with Philadelphia. Although he became famous as an elite third baseman, his college position was shortstop.

Schmidt won three National League Most Valuable Player Awards, 10 Gold Glove Awards, and the 1980 World Series MVP Award.
