What collective name is given to the seven books in C.S. Lewis’s Narnia series?

The story behind the answer

The seven Narnia books by C.S. Lewis are collectively called The Chronicles of Narnia.

The series consists of seven fantasy novels published between 1950 and 1956. They describe the history of the fictional world of Narnia, where animals can speak and time does not pass at the same rate as in our world. Several books feature human children who enter Narnia from Earth.

The published books are The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; Prince Caspian; The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; The Silver Chair; The Horse and His Boy; The Magician’s Nephew; and The Last Battle. Reading orders differ because The Magician’s Nephew describes earlier events but was published sixth.

The series is often called simply “Narnia,” but The Chronicles of Narnia is the canonical collective title. Lewis wrote the books for children while also embedding themes drawn from Christian theology, classical mythology, and medieval romance.
