Zinedine Zidane played for Juventus during the 1997–98 season.
The French midfielder had joined Juventus in 1996 after making his name with Bordeaux. By the 1997–98 campaign, he was a central figure in one of Europe's strongest teams. Playing alongside Alessandro Del Piero and Filippo Inzaghi, Zidane helped Juventus win the Serie A title and reach the UEFA Champions League final.
Juventus lost that Champions League final 1–0 to Real Madrid in Amsterdam, but Zidane's reputation continued to grow. He won the Ballon d'Or in 1998 after helping France win the World Cup on home soil. His Juventus years established him as an elite playmaker before his high-profile move to Real Madrid in 2001.
A possible source of confusion is that Zidane played for several major clubs. Before Juventus, he represented Cannes and Bordeaux in France; after Juventus, he joined Real Madrid. The club associated with his 1997–98 season, however, was Juventus, commonly called Juventus Turin or simply Juve.
